Media Bias in Plain Sight

The news this weekend would seem to be one of the biggest stories of Trump’s presidency, since Mueller’s report is finished, did Trump collude with the Russians to get elected? This is, of course, the very accusation the media has repeated non-stop for the past two years. Certainly an answer to this is big news.

The report further explains that a primary consideration for the Special Counsel’s investigation was whether any Americans – including individuals associated with the Trump campaign – joined the Russian conspiracies to influence the election, which would be a federal crime. The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. As the report states: “[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

An average member of the public might expect that the front page of a major news organization would want to feature this news and get it in front of as many of its readers as possible, and yet CNN leaves us with nothing but spin Monday morning:

“The political fight is just beginning,”  it features, almost ironically as it introduces the next stage of the spin cycle:

“Unanswered Question,” “New Puzzle,” “Russians got what they wanted,” “Barr summation is an insult.”

What is it that they’re doing? Shrouding the report in mystery and casting doubt. In their minds, they don’t want the political fight to be over, and then they make it so! If Trump didn’t collude, then this report is asking even more questions, like, why didn’t we find the collusion?

Of course the answer is that it was a hoax, perpetrated by the fake news. Why did the news coverage repeat time and time again that there was evidence in plain sight? Every single person who said they “knew” and have “seen” ample evidence proving Trump’s involvement with Russians was lying. There’s no way around that fact. Because they did not see the evidence. Because that evidence did not exist.

Now is a great time to reconsider who you trust. Anybody willing to lie to you about this is willing to lie about much more.
